Kites and Boomerangs

these are perhaps extensions and aspects to the Yod...

Kite

In astrology, the kite is a special type of grand trine. In the normal grand trine configuration, three planets or other celestial bodies are equally spaced across the horoscope 120 degrees apart, thereby making three trines that form one configuration of a triangle on the chart. In the kite aspect, a fourth planet is involved, which forms an opposition to one of the planets involved in the grand trine. In addition to opposing the one planet, it will form a sextile to the other two planets in the grand trine.

Whenever a person has a kite in his chart, he is considered to be more likely to be successful in his endeavours because the opposition will give him the push to go out and conquer the obstacles that are presented to him, and the sextiles will give him a little bit more harmony once he has achieved his goals.

The fourth planet in the kite configuration, which opposes one planet and sextiles the other two, is the point in the chart that will hold the key to the special talents and gifts that the native can focus on to help him to achieve success in this life.

This typically refers to a Grand Trine aspect configuration, which has a 4th planet in Opposition (180 degrees) to one of the triangle points and forms Sextile aspects (60 degrees) to the other two points. It looks visually like a kite (hence its name). The stress of the Opposition aspect may increase the likelihood of the Grand Trine being utilized (not just taken for granted, which sometimes happens with the Grand Trine). Or, it may provide a feeling of defensiveness or stress about the Grand Trine energy (e.g., around feelings if the Grand Trine is in Water signs, or intellect if it is in Air signs).

The term Kite can also refer to the Yod aspect configuration, when its apex planet is in Opposition to a fourth planet. Also sometimes called a Boomerang aspect configuration. Similar to the Yod, except the fourth planet has the "last word" in the energy flow and receives an extraordinary amount of stress. this is called a Striving Figure.

    Boomerang

The Boomerang is one of the newer aspect patterns identified The Boomerang looks very much like the Kite configuration except that the opposition is connected to the apex planet of the Yod. The Opposition in the Boomerang is similar also to the Opposition in the Kite as it adds an important piece of perspective to the configuration.

The fourth planet in the Boomerang typically added an important element that seemed missing in the Yod; a sense of understanding what the goal will be. The opposition provides an added focal point in regards to timing and actions which is missing with the Yod. The semi-sextiles connecting the opposition to the base of the Yod are also integral in blending the energies of the Yod into a unified force. The danger of this configuration is that it can become too self-contained, seeming to control the individual rather than the other way around.
