this summer is an exceptional month with four planets (Pluto, Jupiter, Mercury and Neptune) and asteroid Chiron going stationery retrograde.

When a planet goes retrograde it makes an apparent backward motion through the Zodiac. It does not really move backwards, but appears to due to the relative motion of the planet and the Earth revolving round the Sun.

During a Retrograde period, there is a subtle change in the planet's influence related to the nature of the planet. But how does Jupiter's apparent reverse motion affect us and who is going to be particularly affected by it?

Jupiter is the planet synonymous of growth and expansion on many levels (intellectual, spiritual, physical and material), optimism, aspirations, opportunities, abundance, wellbeing, personal faith and development, but also immoderation, exaggeration and inflation.

Jupiter is now stationery retrograde since May 9th (at 22 degrees of Capricorn) and will carry on retrograding until September 8th 2008. The effect of this will be particularly noticeable on Capricorns born around January 13th, and Cancer Sun signs born around July 15th, and also Aries born around April 12th and Libra born around October 16th. Some of you may find the retrograde Jupiter period very challenging.

You will need to re-think your options and your plans, re-evaluate previous beliefs and matters related to ethics and credibility in your profession. Since Jupiter is retrograding in the sign of Capricorn, make sure you keep your business in order. Long-distance travel, legal appointments, negotiations or agreements are not particularly favoured during the retrograde period. Plan carefully, and wait until Jupiter turns Stationery Direct on September 8th 2008, to reap the fruits of your hard work and efforts.

Those of you who have a natal Jupiter retrograde may do well during this retrograde period. Many opportunities (Promotion, unexpected luck, pay rises, gifts, etc.) are likely to come your way. This is also the time for you to develop personal faith and listen to your intuition, particularly as from May 26th, Neptune, the planet of intuition and inspiration, is also going Stationery Retrograde.

Saturn, the planet of structure and limitation, which has been retrograde in Virgo since December 19th 2007 is now Stationery Direct since May 3rd, which is helping Capricorn (ruled by Saturn) and Aquarius Sun signs (Saturn is a co-ruler of Aquarius) or those of you who have planets in the early degrees of Earth Signs to move ahead with your projects.

With the forward movement of Saturn and the Retrograde of Jupiter, we can expect matters to come forward now and have a long-term impact particularly between foreign countries. By the way, on an international level, I am less than optimistic since both World Wars broke out on a retrograde Jupiter.... We may therefore expect more drama-fuelled events and many fascinating celebrity or royal stories...

Let’s not forget that Princess Diana died during a Jupiter retrograde phase...

  • Jupiter retrograde 2008

    MAY 9 through SEPTEMBER 8

When Jupiter turns retrograde, the action of Jupiter is reversed so that the emphasis is upon inner awareness and inner growth. It is an excellent time to get in touch with personal integrity. Jupiter rules role playing in order evoke a positive external reaction. When transiting Jupiter is afflicting natal planets, you will find yourself dealing with phoniness in both yourself and others. When Jupiter is retrograde, you should evaluate how you are not being honest with yourself because you are playing a role that is disloyal to your true self. When opportunities arise while Jupiter is retrograde, they are the result of seeds planted in the past from people met or connections made in the past.

Jupiter retrograde is more spiritual and philosophical so it is a time to explore philosophies, possibly something simpler from a time in your past. According to Delphine Jay, this period may produce an event that reminds you of a time when you had a better perspective on life. She furthermore feels that it is an excellent time to complete Jupitarian projects such as going back to school to complete your education, taking a long distance trip that you have postponed, and making a connection with a long lost friendship. It is a good time to take spiritual or philosophical courses with the objective of gaining a better perspective on life.

Because of the spiritual approach to this Jupiter transit, it is not a time to initiate material activities. A business which starts while Jupiter is retrograde will find that much of the business is connected with altruistic and charitable concerns and good causes. Too much help is given for which the company will not receive payment. Obviously, it is excellent for initiating a humanitarian or fund-raising project.

In this sample chart interpretation, I use the key phrase for the House-position of Jupiter retrograde that it is an area wherein you are able to restore to life things or relationships that are considered dead or dying. Jupiter natally retrograde in the 2nd and *4th House is good for restoring objects or property for resale. It is good for restoring troubled relationships ruled by the various houses. Therefore, it can be assumed that, when Jupiter is transiting retrograde, it is a good time to restore any project or relationship that is failing. I consider Jupiter to be the relating principle in a chart – how we reach out and connect with others and what we relate to most easily. During the retrograde cycle, make the effort to revive that which is failing as ruled by the House-position of the transiting retrograde. Make the effort to go back and make the connection.

    • Jupiter Retrograde In Capricorn - It's All About Keeping The Faith

Jupiter, the planet of luck and expansion, turned retrograde on 9 May 2008 and will continue to do so for the next 4 months or so. The planet Jupiter is normally associated with qualities such as optimism, a happy-go-lucky attitude, higher learning, long-distance travel, philosophy and of course, luck. Jupiter in our charts (sign and House) represents where we get our seemingly lucky breaks in life and promises good things for us to fall back on when things seem to be going rough in our lives.

Retrograde periods are periods when the planets seemingly move slower and backwards or 'reversed' as viewed from Earth's perspective. In reality, the planets are not really moving backwards of course; they just appear to be doing so because of an optical disillusion. Although Retrograde periods always signify and usher in periods of trials and tests, there are also opportunities for growth and learning, especially those to do with inner growth and self-healing issues. Retrograde periods force us to turn inwards instead of outwards in our search for answers and we are able to gain more perspective on life and its issues that way.

With a Jupiter Retrograde, luck may seem harder to come by and seemingly lucky breaks may appear to come to a halt for the time being. It's a time for us to re-evaluate and re-assess things around us; a time for us to question the beliefs, values that society and organizations have imposed upon us. This encourages us not to take everything at its face value. Monetary gains in general may not seem so easy to come by these days.

Capricorn on the other sign if the sign of hard work, diligence, responsibility and practicality. It is ruled by the taskmaster Saturn, also known as the Father of Time and Ruler of Karmic Issues. Capricorn rules mountains and the arduous journey all the way to the top. In an individual's chart, Capricorn represents one's social standing, status, career and work-related issues, wheres on a social level, Capricorn rules governments, social institutions, clubs and organizations.

Now, when Jupiter turns Retrograde in the sign of Capricorn, what does that imply? On a personal level, opportunities in the job front such as promotions, career advancement etc might come to a standstill or be limited and restricted for the time being. There may be refocusing or realignment of one's social standing, career goals in the months to come until Jupiter turns direct again at the beginning of September. We are likely to re-evaluate the priorities in our lives - should we overly reliant on external sources such as materialism, job status, social standing to determine our sense of self-worth and esteem?

On a broader social level, it is also a time when our faith in the external bodies - our governments, social and political organizations and institutions is being tested to the extreme. Instead of placing trust in everything that is handed or served to us from the external, this period encourages to turn inwards for answers instead. Are we really gaining much from being dependent on those external governmental structures for our individual growth, progress and development? When the structures that governmental bodies erect start to crumble, who can we turn to now? The answer lies in us and our own inner guides, for there is really nowhere else to turn to.

This is why this period often highlights the issue of crises around one's faith. As we begin to turn inwards for answers instead, we are forced to re-evaluate and re-assess the sources and objects that give us strength and security in life. Many individuals choose to focus on and feed their inner spiritual needs instead as this is an excellent time to deal with issues relating to self-healing and soul searching.
